The Langhorne Residence | Washington, DC
A Gathering Place Infused with Warmth
The foundation for this D.C. home’s interior decor is a palette of whites and high-key beiges, including the spectacular mixed width, predominantly 11-inch, Carlisle wide plank White Oak floor. Furnishings and textiles in the residence are soft and neutral and rich pops of color appear in artwork and wall accents to make each room feel welcoming and unique. In addition to using planks with extremely wide widths, the floor was crafted using 3 to 14-foot lengths, with an average plank of 8 to 9 feet long! Because the home’s design was spare and contemporary, the homeowner wanted a little bit of character in the floor. Carlisle craftsmen created a grade of wood which blended the clear, regal appearance of Heirloom floors with the natural rusticity of Original grade floors to incorporate interesting grain patterns, figuring and quality knots. The end product provides the perfect balance of contemporary and casual styling. — Exactly what the client wanted!
