The beauty of parquet flooring

Parquet flooring – a wood floor installed with a pattern – is making a comeback today as more homeowners are choosing parquet floors to distinguish their interior spaces. Originally a sign of affluence in the earliest European manors and castles, parquet floor designs continue to bring a sense of luxury and stunning beauty to any room.

At Carlisle Wide Plank Floors, we offer a nice selection of parquet wood flooring in a variety of woods and patterns. An exercise in tailored luxury, these floors are built to specification in our custom shop and are available in pre-assembled sections or in individual pieces.

We also offer two parquet flooring collections – the Studio Herringbone and Manhattan Herringbone – which are made from engineered White Oak or engineered Rift and Quartersawn White Oak and can help to create a visually stunning backdrop for a contemporary or traditional space.

Choosing your ideal parquet flooring

Parquet flooring from Carlisle is available in several different wood floor patterns.

A Herringbone pattern uses rectangular planks cut at the same length and laid out in a zigzag pattern, with one end abutting another board at a right angle. The effect of herringbone parquet flooring is a sense of overlapping planks and angles that provides a great deal of visual interest.

A Chevron pattern also uses a zigzag pattern, but the ends of each board are cut at an angle so that the pattern has a prominent V-shape. The boards in a Chevron pattern can be installed at any angle by adjusting the angle at which the ends of boards are cut.

A Versailles pattern is inspired by the floors in the Palace of Versailles of the French King, Louis XIV. This intricate design uses boards of various lengths to create a woven appearance that is instantly recognizable.

Our parquet flooring experts can also work with you to create your own unique design, including room borders and dramatic focal points. Parquet flooring from Carlisle can be fashioned from a variety of wood species, including reclaimed flooring. Floors can be preassembled in sections or in individual pieces, depending on the style of parquet flooring you choose. And for added convenience, a Carlisle parquet floor can even be pre-finished to simplify and speed installation.

FAQs: everything you need to know about parquet flooring

What is parquet flooring?

Parquet flooring is a floor where the flooring material, usually hardwood, is laid out in some type of pattern, rather than simply installing planks in parallel strips. Parquet floors come in a wide variety of well-known patterns such as Herringbone, Chevron and Versailles, but many parquet floors are individually and intricately designed to create a one-of-a-kind visual statement.

Why choose parquet flooring?

Parquet flooring adds a sense of luxury and visual interest to a room, making the floor a major element within an interior design.

Is parquet flooring hard to install?

Parquet flooring is more time-consuming to create and install than traditional hardwood floors, as there are typically many more pieces that must be expertly cut and fitted.

What types of wood can be used for parquet flooring?

While oak parquet flooring is a common choice, any hardwood floor can be installed in a pattern. It’s even possible to mix colors of wood or materials such as wood and tile to create an even more unique appearance.

Can parquet flooring be prefinished?

Yes. Parquet floors can be prefinished in the manufacturer’s facility under ideal conditions, making the installation on site easier and faster.

Can engineered flooring be installed with patterns?

Yes. Engineered parquet flooring is a convenient choice for a patterned wood floor, especially in installations over radiant heat, concrete slab or in high moisture areas above or below grade.
