How to customize your modern hardwood floors

In addition to a choice of wood, we offer a variety of additional options for customizing your Carlisle floor.

Our custom wood grades are designed to help you achieve your ideal look by revealing more or less character in the floorboards. Our Original Grade features boards with more knots, mineral streaks, ingrown bark and color variation. Our Heirloom Grade features less character and fewer variations in color and grain patterns. Customers seeking modern hardwood floors tend to prefer the consistency of the Heirloom Grade.

When considering the structure of your floor, we offer both solid wood and engineered wood flooring. Engineered floors are made with multiple layers of material onto which a thick veneer of hardwood is glued, creating a floorboard that is more resistant to extreme changes in temperature and humidity. While there is virtually no difference in appearance between our solid and engineered floors, modern engineered wood flooring is often better suited to installation below grade, on concrete slab or over radiant heat.

Texturing your floor can produce a unique appearance in modern hardwood floors. Texturing techniques typically seek to replicate the appearance of older floorboards by adding imperfections and by gently wearing away the softer grains in the way that foot traffic and time normally do.
