Frequently Asked Questions

What is Birch engineered flooring?

Birch engineered flooring is a surface where the floorboards are made with a veneer of Birch hardwood that is adhered to multiple layers of backing material. Engineered floors are intended for installation in locations where large fluctuations in temperature and humidity could cause solid hardwood floorboards to warp or split. Engineered floors are ideal for loft flooring that is installed on a concrete slab, for example. Engineered floors also make excellent sunroom flooring and mud room flooring, as the floorboards are more impervious to heat and moisture.

What are the benefits of Carlisle Birch engineered flooring?

Carlisle engineered floorboards offer the most stable and durable core available on the market today. Our Birch engineered flooring is made with a much thicker top layer and more layers of backing material, and our engineered boards come in much wider widths than our competitors' floorboards.

What does Birch flooring look like?

Carlisle Birch engineered flooring is virtually indistinguishable from solid wood Birch flooring. It seems to me this should describe the look of the flooring more......such as Birch is defined by it's color variation where is each board contains a lighter white to golden sapwood running down the edge of the board that contrasts with he reddish brown heartwood that is displayed in varying contents down the middle of the board

Why choose Birch vs. Oak or Birch vs. Maple flooring?

While Birch and Oak floors have roughly the same density, Birch typically offers more color and grain variation than Oak, producing floors with more personality. Maple is considerably harder than Birch, but the grain patterns in Birch can help to camouflage scratches and dents more easily.

Can Birch engineered flooring be textured?

Yes. The same texturing techniques we apply to solid wood floors can be used on our Birch engineered flooring. Texture gives new floors the appearance of floors that are centuries old, recreating the marks left from early sawmills as well as the wear produced by time and foot traffic.

Why Carlisle is #1 in engineered flooring

Carlisle has been a leader in handcrafted solid wood flooring for more than 50 years. Today, we are among the leaders in engineered flooring as well. Our Birch engineered flooring is made with a thicker base – we use up to 11 layers of a suitable plywood substrate to create one of the most durable and stable cores on the market today. We also use a wear layer that is 2x to 3x thicker than most other products, ensuring your Birch engineered flooring will last longer and enabling you to refinish it up to 3 times in the future. Our engineered floorboards come in widths up to 10″ and lengths up to 12′ – much wider and longer than the industry standard of 3″ wide and 3′ long. And our SlowCraft™ manufacturing process ensures that each Birch engineered floor is manufactured to the highest quality.

In addition to the quality of our design, you’ll find our craftsmanship to be unparalleled in the flooring industry. Every Carlisle floor is produced with passion, pride and purpose by our artisan woodworkers. They know that when it comes to the surface that will be the centerpiece of your home, every detail matters – from the grain pattern on each plank to the exact hue of the stain you choose.
